Hey there, quick update. We’re pushing our way through the work required for our major graphics upgrade/ engine overhaul. We need to bring the PS3 engine code across piece by piece and as you can imagine because of the games massive code base, it’s a big task. Slowly but surely we’re getting there. At this point, we’ve got the menu basically functional and we’re about to try and load a level. Gameplay has been our focus to date (and will continue to be), but at this point now it’s solely graphics / pretty pictures. If we were a larger studio we could have focused on gameplay and graphics at the same time, but in a way it’s been a blessing because limited resources forced us to prioritize and to concentrate on the gameplay first. The years of R&D slog will hopefully pay off and we’re hoping that the game code has benefited because of it for a number of reasons. But right now, there are definitely mixed feelings about pulling it all apart again in order to start anew! We do know that this is exactly what we have to do now in order to focus on creating the awesome looking graphics people deserve. So far we are at the point of loading a level so next week, once we load a level (water, waves, surfer) we’ll start to look at the current and next gen platforms. We certainly aren’t getting ahead ourselves and we know how long the road ahead is, but that’s the goal. On the wish-list is a laser like focus on wave graphics, water graphics and surfing animation, there will also be continued physics tweaking along with cleaner menus and UI. Not to mention extra features in the shop. The remaining game modes plus half a dozen real locations on top of what we already have would be nice, along with Spanish translations and at least one online mode as well. So anyway that’s the aim at least! We’ll see how we go…
